99 years old and online?

You may not have been targeting 99-year-olds in your last online campaign, but you might have reached them anyway.

More than one out of 10 US consumers ages 99 and older surveyed by Gfk Roper Public Affairs & Media for Evercare said they used the Internet, and 7% used e-mail.

The results were based on a sample of only 100, so they should be considered directional rather than definitive. Still, the US Census Bureau says there will be more than 100,000 Americans ages 100 and older by 2010, and baby boomers will surely increase those numbers for at least the next 30 years. And they will be bringing their technology with them.

Baby boomers may bristle at being called "seniors," but the generation is huge in numbers and promises to be a rich audience for all sorts of online services—with evolving needs.

For online retailers, one way to please older consumers without boring younger ones is to create a niche site. Online stores can gather appropriate products together that seniors might have trouble finding among all the general merchandise displayed.

Britain Population Gaining Market Share

Britain's population proves to be one of the most savvy online worldwide populations. More the 40% of online sales for 2008 will come from Western Europe as e-commerce confidence grows higher.

Buyer numbers as well as the annual spend per buyer are both growing providing th country a solid lead in the e-commerce arena over Europe's other nations.

In 2007 average online monthly visitors climbed to 37 million people or more than 61% of it's total population. There is no sign of waiver either. It is predicted that approximately 70% of all UK residents will have access to the Internet by 2012.

Widget Compatible?

Widgets, once a proverbial description for anything, are now becoming common place with in the Internet Marketing Sector as viable web applications. In fact they are getting far more attention than actual ad dollars. Despite this trend increase, estimates predict that only $40 million will be spent by US companies in 2008 to create, market and distribute these widgets, which is still up 266% from $15 million in 2007.


The little snippets of script are now showing their profitable faces everywhere. In May of 2007 Facebook opened up to third-party applications and since then, there have been more than 15,000 applications developed. There are now over 101,000 developers, worldwide, feverishly working on applications and widgets.


Although widgets are the latest trend and hot to trot within the Internet Marketing community, there are concerns raising. Measurement difficulties, burn out with applications, deceptive techniques as well as distribution hurdles are challenges developers are facing as they push installation rates.

Females bump into the Majority position for UK Internet Users.

The Internet usage for the UK has been predominately ruled by males. That is beginning to change. Females have now moved into a slight majority position accounting for 50.6%.


It is predicted that by 2012 female Internet usage will account for 51.4% of all UK online users.

The driving factor are younger women between 18 to 34 of age. Currently they comprise 21.4% of the female population for the UK in 2008 which is not much in comparison. However, they account for 35% of the total female population online and ultimately spend more time online than their counterpart males.


The Truth About Mobile Ads

It is no secret that 2007 was not the best year for mobile marketing. However, back office improvements and the launch of the i-Phone have moved this sector past the experimental stages. In comparison to similar interactive platforms, mobile ad spending will remain flat for 2008.Forecasts predict that mobile

2007 may not have been “the year of mobile marketing,” but with the i Phone launch and other under-the-hood improvements, mobile marketers moved past the experimental stage. Still, compared to other interactive platforms, in 2008 mobile will remain small in overall spending.

In order to gain true market maturity considerable amounts of talent, time, money, and brand negotiations will have to be spent by mobile carriers, agencies and mobile service providers.

SEO, Spending Trends Among Users for Search Engine Marketing



Today's search engines are competing more than ever. However, Search Engine giant-Google still crushes it competition drawing upon far more search users, requests and ad revenues than all of it's rivals put together.


That is still big dollars.


In 2007, $8.6 billion went towards search engine advertising. When you do the math, the wimpy 16% stake equals the equivalent of $1.4 billion. And with the spending on search engine advertising nearly doubling to almost $16.6 billion by 2011, a small slice of the pie still represents substantial revenue.

It is estimated that Google cashed in 75% of US paid search advertising for 2007, which is up more than 60% from 2006. Yahoo, holding strong in th number two position, paled in comparison at 9% share, while all others split 16% of the pie.

The competition is fierce, but Google still dominates the market, drawing far more search users, requests and ad revenues than all its rivals put together.

Automotive Marketing Online

The number one leader in US advertising spending, the automotive sector, has now dipped a notch into the number two position being bumped by the retail sector. The spending on advertisements in the sector is going in reverse, and moving onto the Internet. Nearly $3 billion dollars will be spent this year in online advertising which is a 21.6% increase.

Research reports show that 8 out of 10 automotive consumers consult the Internet at least once when considering to purchase a car. It's no secret that Auto advertisers are following their market online.

Although these automakers and dealers can see the cost effectiveness of the Internet, it's ability to be measured and in some ways better than the traditional media outlets the channel goes without getting a free ride in the passenger seat. Marketing executives are closely watching the online executions they are employing and evaluating technologies and scrutinizing as closely the older, more established advertising vehicles ensuring that all touch points operate in sync.
